The problem
Bookkeeping that only gets done in March
For a lot of small businesses the books are a shoebox and a bank app. It works, right up until you need to know whether last quarter was actually profitable, what you spent on fuel, or which invoice never got paid β and then it's an evening of scrolling statements.
The full accounting suites solve that and bring a lot with them: a monthly fee per company, a bank feed to authorise, payroll modules you don't need, and a payments layer that wants a cut of every invoice. If your bookkeeping is fifty transactions a month, that's a big machine for a small job.
This is the small job, done well. Two kinds of row β money in, money out β each with a date, an amount, a category and a note. From those two you get totals, profit, a breakdown by category, and a CSV when your accountant asks. Invoices are records you produce and track, not a checkout.
Who it's for
For the business whose books are simple and should stay that way
This is aimed at the owner who wants an honest picture of the month without hiring anyone or learning double-entry.
A good fit
- Sole traders, owner-operators and small crews with straightforward income and costs.
- Anyone who invoices by sending a document and gets paid by bank transfer, cash, cheque or card in person.
- Businesses that want profit by category β materials, fuel, subcontractors β without building a chart of accounts.
- Anyone who currently reconstructs the year from bank statements at tax time.
Probably not for you if
- You need customers to pay you by clicking a link in the invoice.
- You need payroll, VAT/sales-tax filing, or multi-currency.
- You need automatic bank feeds and reconciliation.
- You need formal double-entry accounts your accountant will file directly from.
What it does
Everything comes from your own rows
Every total on the page is summed from entries you made, for the period you selected. An empty period shows $0.00 and says so β you will never see a plausible-looking placeholder figure.
Money in and money out
One ledger, two kinds of entry, each with a date, amount, category, description and payment method. Add, edit and delete inline β no forms to navigate away to.
Profit for any period
Pick a period and every number on the page follows it: income, expenses, net profit, the ledger, the breakdown and the export. There's never a total on screen whose date range you have to guess.
Breakdown by category
Where the money actually went, ranked, with each category's share. This is the view that changes decisions β most owners are surprised by at least one line the first time they see it.
Invoices as records
Build an invoice from line items with quantities and unit prices, save it as a draft, mark it sent, then mark it paid when your bank shows the money. Overdue invoices are flagged so nothing goes quiet.
Print or save as PDF
An invoice prints cleanly from the browser, which is also how you save it as a PDF to email. You send it from your own address, from your own business.
CSV export for your accountant
The selected period, as a spreadsheet. Whoever does your return gets a file instead of a carrier bag.
Amounts stored exactly
Money is held as whole cents from the database through to the screen, so totals add up to the penny rather than drifting the way spreadsheet arithmetic does.
Nothing to set up first
No chart of accounts to design, no onboarding wizard, no verification queue. You can have a real profit figure for last month within a few minutes of signing up.

What it doesn't do
Where it stops, so nothing surprises you
It's a ledger and an invoice book, not a full finance department. Stated plainly, here is what it doesn't try to be.
You mark invoices paid yourself
You flip an invoice to paid when your own bank shows the money. That's one action per invoice, and it means the record matches your account rather than anyone else's idea of it.
No bank feed, no reconciliation engine
Entries are the ones you added. Nothing has access to your bank, which is also why there's no connection to authorise and nothing to re-authorise every ninety days.
It isn't a filing service
It won't compute or file your taxes. It gives you clean, categorised, exportable records for whoever does β which is the part most small businesses are actually missing.
No payroll or inventory
If you're running payroll or tracking stock levels, you'll want dedicated software for those. This covers what came in, what went out, and what you invoiced.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I send an invoice to a customer?
Build it from line items, then print it or save it as a PDF from your browser and send it from your own email address. It goes out as your business, not ours.
Is it really free?
Yes β it's included with a free account, which takes no card. We earn money when a business wants us handling their SEO and AI-search visibility, not from charging for a ledger.
Do I need an accounting background?
No. There's no double-entry, no journals and no chart of accounts. You record what came in and what went out, and the tool does the arithmetic.
Can my accountant use what's in here?
Yes. Export the period as CSV and hand it over. It's categorised, dated and complete, which is usually a considerable improvement on what they normally receive.
Will it connect to my bank?
No, and it can't. There's no bank connection anywhere in the tool, which is deliberate: nothing to authorise, nothing with read access to your account.
What happens to my invoices if I cancel a paid plan?
The bookkeeping tool is part of the free account, so it doesn't switch off when a paid plan does. Your records stay yours either way.
Does it handle sales tax or VAT?
Not as a separate calculation. You can record a tax amount as its own line or category, but the tool doesn't compute rates or produce a filing.
